Hadoop - What is it?
Hadoop is an open source Java implementation of Google's MapReduce algorithm along with an infrastructure to support distributing it over multiple machines. This includes it's own filesystem ( HDFS Hadoop Distributed File System based on the Google File System) which is specifically tailored for dealing with large files.

24 months of support for the previous service pack
A lot of msft suite is going to expire i.e. "go out of support" completely in 2010 - 2011 time frame
